My wedding

Against all odds, I finally married my love. When I said against all odds, I want to say that neither me nor my husband were seeing the point to get married and didn’t want to get married.

But get back to the beginning. We were only 18 and 19 years old when we met and the beginning of our story was tangled with an eating disorder and this story, our story, began like a whirlwind, with lots of up and downs. Maybe like most love stories, but our downs were really low and our ups were like amazing. It is maybe one of the reason why our bond was and still is so strong.

When all our friends began to get married, we were together for already maybe seven years and we didn’t see the point of the mariage. We were discussing about it, but none of us can really be bothered. We were together, happy and we cannot see what the mariage would bring us.

Nine years later, some very low downs and lots of amazing ups later, one international move later, 4 kids later, we were thinking about the mariage. Not really for us, or to show our love, nothing has changed on this side. But we were living as a married couple and we thought that it would be easier to deal with all the paperwork if something happens to one of us. So we decided to marry quite quickly in the UK with just a bunch of close friends living in the UK and my parents and to do a party in France with all our friends and family the following summer. Neither me nor my partner didn’t even propose and that was absolutely fine. It was a common decision and in our head it was more a formality and the occasion to party than anything else.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong. The wedding in the UK took place end of November with just a few friends and my parents. I didn’t want a big wedding dress and I didn’t want a wedding ring as we already exchange some ring at the very beginning of our story and this one means a lot to me. I still something meaningfull so I decided to crochet my own shawl, my wedding bouquet and the wedding favors. So it was « just » a small ceremony at the registrar office followed by a restaurant for all of us. But it was truly magic. I was so touched so see my friends and parents with me, coming for us, to share this with us. I had so many compliments on my crocheted items, the uniqueness of my wedding bouquet made me feel so special. It was very small but so very special, a little gem to cherish for the years to come. Being surrounded by so much love makes even the smallest things unforgettable. I remember that when the ceremony was finished it was lightly snowing outside, but every times I pass in front of the registrar office, I can picture all of us under the snow.

With that in mind we prepared the party in France for the next summer. We wanted to do something still as small as possible so only family and very close friends, in my parents garden. A ceremony celebrated by my cousins, a rustic theme with hay ball and lights in the trees, a really nice méchoui and some live music. Once againt I wanted my wedding party to be meaningfull, I crocheted my own wedding dress and my wedding bouquet ! The preparation was a little bit stressful and draining but it was one of the most amazing day of my life. To be with all those people that you foundly care about and to see them coming for you, it is one of the best feeling in the world, You feel blessed to have such amazing friends and family. I didn’t really expect anything from this day, so I cannot tell if it went according to plan or not, or if it was as I imagined it. But it went how it went and it was imperfectly perfect.

Getting married, as we first thought, didn’t change anything at all between us, didn’t change the way we love each other. It will propably be easier paperwork wise if something happens to one of us. But It will definitely be one of the most magical moment in my life. To share this day with him, with my boys, with my family and my friends so close to my heart is mindblowing, is somehting out of this world. We didn’t have any wedding ring, we didn’t go to church or have a big wedding, I didn’t have a big wedding dress but I stopped, I slowed down, I looked at all the people and spoke to them and hug them, I took time to think at those we were not present with us anymore, I took time to take all the small things that made this day so magical in.

Your wedding does have to follow any rules, only yours.

Doesn’t matter how you propose ;

Doesn’t matter how big or small your wedding is ;

Doesn’t matter what dress you wear ;

Doesn’t matter what you will eat ;

Follow your own rules and your heart.

Make decisions that make your heart sings, and slow down, enjoy every moment,

Make it matter !
