Behind the making

Hello, I’m Stephanie.

I’m a crochet and macramé artist and tutor, although my path into textiles has been a rather unexpected one.

Originally trained as a hydrodynamics engineer, I spent several years working in Monaco before moving to England and eventually changing direction completely.

I discovered crochet in 2019, during a four-week course at my local library, and something simply clicked. What started as a new skill quickly became part of my everyday life — a way to make with my hands, explore ideas and slow down.

My engineering background has never really left me. I still love understanding how things work, experimenting, solving problems and looking at things from a different angle. Today, I simply do it with yarn and cord rather than equations.

Wanting to take my practice further, I completed a two-year course with the School of Stitched Textiles, graduating in 2023, followed by a Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

Today, I bring all of this together through my workshops, collaborative experiences and pieces made by hand — creating opportunities to make, learn, connect and enjoy a little more time spent doing something slowly.

My vision

I believe there is something special about making with our hands.

In a world where everything seems to move quickly, crochet and macramé invite us to do the opposite — to slow down, pay attention and enjoy the process as much as the finished piece.

Whether through a workshop, a collaborative piece or something I have made by hand, I want my work to create a little space for those moments.

A moment to make. To learn. To share time with someone. To notice the small things. And sometimes, to create something that will hold the memory of that moment for years to come.

My commitment

Quality over quantity. Always.

I care deeply about how things are made — the materials I choose, the techniques I use and the time I give to each piece and each workshop.

I believe in making fewer things, but making them well. I continue to learn, experiment and develop my skills so that the knowledge I share and the work I create are something I can genuinely be proud of.

Respect for nature is also part of the way I live and, naturally, part of the way I work. Wherever possible, I choose materials, suppliers and ways of working with their environmental and ethical impact in mind.

I don’t believe perfection exists when it comes to sustainability, but I do believe in making thoughtful choices, questioning them and continuing to do better.
